Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has once again expressed his strong criticism regarding the recent arrest of Allu Arjun in connection with the death of a female fan during a stampede at the premiere of ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’ at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad. The filmmaker urged all actors to protest against the ‘Pushpa’ star’s arrest and compared the tragic incident to a similar event on the set of the late actress Sridevi’s film ‘Kshana Kshanam‘.

Taking to his X account (formerly Twitter), Ram Gopal Varma conveyed that he does not hold Allu Arjun responsible for incidents resulting from his immense popularity. He wrote, “Every STAR should STRONGLY protest against @alluarjun’s ARREST because for any celebrity, whether it’s a FILM STAR or a POLITICAL STAR, is it a crime for them to be ENORMOUSLY POPULAR???”

The filmmaker further drew a parallel between the ‘Pushpa 2’ stampede and a similar tragedy involving the late actress Sridevi. He cited an example from the shooting of his film ‘Kshana Kshanam’, where three people reportedly lost their lives due to the enormous crowd that had gathered to see the actress. “Three people died in the lakhs of crowd who came to see SRIDEVI during the shooting of my film KSHANA KSHANAM. So, will the #TelanganaPolice now go to #HEAVEN to ARREST #Sridevi???” he asked rhetorically, criticising the rationale behind such legal actions.
On December 13, the ‘Pushpa’ actor was arrested and spent the night in Chanchalguda Central Jail. Although a court initially ordered a 14-day judicial remand, the Telangana High Court later granted him interim bail for four weeks. The Chikkadapally Police had registered a case against Allu Arjun and the theatre management for failing to notify law enforcement about his visit, which led to the tragic stampede.
Recent reports also suggest that the son of the late female fan, who was injured during the event, is currently on a ventilator. The actor has pledged Rs 25 lakh for the deceased fan’s family, and his father, Allu Aravind, recently visited the injured boy in hospital. Aravind has since confirmed that the boy’s health is improving.
