Before Gadar 2‘s release, director Anil Sharma addressed his conflict with Ameesha Patel, revealing her initial hesitation about playing a mother-in-law. He stated that since she agreed to portray a mother on-screen, playing a mother-in-law should have been acceptable.
In a recent chat with Siddharth Kannan, Anil shared that Ameesha, who played Sakina in Gadar 2, made this request because she had certain expectations from the film’s storyline as an actor.
Anil shared that Ameesha had difficulty accepting the reduced screen time for her character in Gadar 2 compared to the first film. He explained that she struggled with the natural progression of her character’s age, transitioning from playing Jeete’s mother to also portraying a mother-in-law.To illustrate his point, Anil referenced actresses like Nargis Dutt, who portrayed a mother in Mother India despite being young. He acknowledged Ameesha’s efforts to maintain her appearance but emphasized that, as an actor, adapting to such roles is essential.
Sharma believed Ameesha Patel’s hesitation stemmed from modern branding pressures, where actors often avoid certain roles to protect their image. This might have caused her internal conflict, but eventually, the differences were resolved.
Despite the challenges, Sharma emphasized his deep respect for Ameesha, stating she will always be the iconic Sakina from Gadar 1 to him. He holds no grudges and considers her a cherished part of his family.
Addressing reports about Ameesha Patel’s remarks regarding his son, Utkarsh Sharma, who plays her on-screen son in Gadar, the director admitted feeling hurt by her comments, especially as they mentioned his name.
He admitted feeling that some comments seemed unpleasant but believed Ameesha Patel had no harmful intentions. His son, Utkarsh, handled it maturely, viewing it as part of the industry and using the experience to build resilience against future criticism.
