Rakesh Roshan’s Bollywood journey has been marked by intriguing casting decisions, and now one of the most interesting stories involves the ‘Singham’ star Ajay Devgn. Initially approached for the film ‘Karan Arjun‘, Devgn was offered a leading role before Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan were roped in. As the reports suggest, although he initially agreed, he ultimately declined due to personal reasons, allowing Salman to step in and become part of one of the iconic Bollywood films.
Years later, Rakesh Roshan sought to collaborate with Ajay again, this time for the superhero film ‘Krrish 3’. In an interview with News18, Rakesh Roshan revealed that he envisioned Ajay in the role of Kaal, the film’s antagonist. However, Devgn turned down the opportunity. He expressed his concerns about playing a villain opposite another hero, stating that it would not sit well with him to be killed by a fellow hero.
Roshan recounted their conversation: “He said the story is very good and the screenplay is very good but ‘Rakesh ji mere liye ye karna thoda mushkil hoga kyunki main bhi hero hoon. Mujhe end mein maare, acha nahi lagega. Aur aap toh compromise karenge nahi’ (It will be difficult for me to play the part because I am also a hero. If I am killed in the end, it won’t look nice and you won’t compromise on the story).”Rakesh acknowledged this sentiment but remained steadfast in his vision for the film.
Despite this missed opportunity by Ajay, Rakesh Roshan has continued to build on his successful franchise. The third installment of the series, ‘Krrish 3’, was released in 2013 and featured Hrithik Roshan in the lead role alongside Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut, and Vivek Oberoi. The film was well-received and became a blockbuster hit at the box office.
Looking ahead, he is preparing for a re-release of ‘Karan Arjun’ on November 22 to celebrate its 30th anniversary this year.
