An explosion in Phalelung Rural Municipality, Panchthar district, claimed the lives of two children, 11-year-old Dipson Sawa and his 2-year-old sister Prince Sawa. The incident occurred at the home of local resident Aitaraj Kerung, where the children, along with others, were injured. Despite being rushed to the hospital, both Dipson and Prince succumbed to their injuries.
The explosion also left 11-year-old Pawan Rai injured, though he is in stable condition and receiving treatment at Panchthar Hospital. Another child, 7-year-old Dipshan Rai, sustained minor injuries and is being treated at a local health post. The authorities suspect that a homemade grenade was the cause of the explosion, and a suspicious object found at the scene is being investigated by a bomb disposal team from the Nepal Army.
The police are investigating the incident to determine the origin of the bomb, which may have been hidden during the country’s conflict period. The house where the explosion took place belongs to Aitaraj, a former Maoist, and is currently occupied by Gyan Bahadur Rai’s family. The investigation is ongoing as officials seek to uncover more details surrounding the tragic event.
