Fardeen: Dad gave him Rs 50K allowance post Prem Aggan flop

Fardeen Khan says Feroz Khan gave him Rs 50,000 allowance for a year after his debut film 'Prem Aggan' flopped

Fardeen Khan recently opened up about the tough period following the failure of his debut film, Prem Aggan (1998), and the support he received from his father, legendary actor-director Feroz Khan.
Speaking in an interview with Mashable India, Fardeen revealed that after the film bombed, his father promised to provide him with a monthly allowance of Rs 50,000 for a year to help him regain his footing in the industry.
Reflecting on his early struggles, Fardeen shared that Prem Aggan’s failure forced him to return almost Rs 1 crore in advances for projects that were shelved after he was written off as a leading man. “I was out of work, and my father told me, ‘I will support you for one year. You’ll get Rs 50,000 a month and a roof over your head. After that, you’re on your own.’ Just before the film’s release, I had bought an Opel Astra. From that allowance, Rs 23,000 went to my car installments, and the rest had to cover petrol and other expenses,” he said, laughing.
Despite being born into a celebrated film family, Fardeen’s journey in Bollywood has been far from easy. After a series of ups and downs, he took a break in 2010 following Feroz Khan’s passing in 2009. Fourteen years later, Fardeen has made his comeback, securing a key role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s series, ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar‘.
Discussing his father’s influence, Fardeen described Feroz as a “formidable force of nature” who was brutally honest yet supportive. “He didn’t sugarcoat anything, whether as a father or a filmmaker. He would criticise but never in a way that would diminish you. He told me where I needed to improve and what I was good at,” Fardeen recalled.
He also shared how Feroz never indulged him with the perks of success. The actor revealed that he first flew business class only during his second film, ‘Jungle’ (2000), directed by Ram Gopal Varma. Even during school, Feroz maintained financial discipline, giving his children Rs 500-1,500 per week as pocket money.
