Karan Johar's Dharma Productions puts a halt to all the pre-release screenings of its upcoming films: ‘This decision has been difficult’

For more than 20 years, Karan Johar has been producing films under the banner of Dharma Productions. ‘Jigra’ and ‘Dhadak 2’ are the production house’s two big upcoming films. As the release of Alia Bhatt-starrer is scheduled to release soon, pre-release screenings of Dharma Productions‘ next projects have been halted.
Regarding the latest decision on pre-release screenings, Dharma Productions, owned by Karan Johar, released a statement recently.The production house said in a statement to the press that it had “unanimously decided” to stop the screenings being held before the movie releases.
The statement read, “As we continue to evolve, we find ourselves at a juncture where we must adapt and innovate our approach. After much deliberation, we’ve unanimously decided to forgo pre-release screenings for our upcoming films.”
The decision was described as “difficult” and as a “necessary step” by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions to make sure that the audience saw those movies the way “they were meant to be experienced”. The production company stated that it would help maintain the audience’s cinematic experience exciting.
To provide for timely reviews, Dharma Productions also clarified that it will keep holding press screenings of its upcoming films during the first part of the opening day. The media is welcome to attend press screenings on the day of release, according to the producing house.
The statement further read, “Having said that, we understand the importance of timely reviews and the role they play in the success of our films. Therefore, we are pleased to announce that we will be hosting press screenings in the first half of the release day for each of our movies.”
Directed by Vasan Bala, ‘Jigra’ stars Alia Bhatt in the lead role. The film also stars Vedang Raina, who made his debut in Bollywood with Zoya Akhtar’s film ‘The Archies’. It will be released on October 11, 2024. ‘Dhadak 2’, the sequel to ‘Dhadak’, stars Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri as leads. The sequel will be released on November 22, 2024.
‘Call Me Bae’, the debut series of Ananya Panday, was recently produced by Dharma Productions. It also backed ‘The Tribe’, an OTT series starring her cousin Alanna Pandey.
