'The Sabarmati Report' box office collection day 1: Kanguva's decline boosts the Vikrant Massey starrer; the latter opens at Rs 1.2 crore
Despite backlash against ‘Kanguva’, ‘The Sabarmati Report’ starring Vikrant Massey is enjoying a strong opening weekend. The film collected Rs 1.25 crore on its first day and is projected to reach Rs 1.98 crore by Saturday evening. Although criticized as propaganda, it outperforms several recent releases but falls short of ‘The Kerala Story’s’ success.

The backlash against director Siva and actor Suriya’s Kanguva, which has hurt its box office numbers, seems to have given a surprising boost to The Sabarmati Report. Directed by Dheeraj Sarna and starring Vikrant Massey, Raashii Khanna, and Riddhi Dogra, the film made a strong start, even though it released just a day after the big-budget Kanguva.
On its release day, Friday, The Sabarmati Report earned a nett collection of Rs 1.25 crore in India, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The film saw an overall occupancy rate of 16.74 percent in the Hindi market, starting at 9.58 percent in the morning, rising to 15.19 percent in the afternoon, 16.59 percent in the evening, and peaking at 25.58 percent during the night shows.

The film has outperformed recent releases such as Janhvi Kapoor’s Ulajh (Rs 1.15 crore), Pankaj Tripathi’s Main Atal Hoon (Rs 1.15 crore), Aayush Sharma’s Ruslaan (Rs 60 lakh), Adah Sharma’s Bastar: The Naxal Story (Rs 40 lakh), and director Dibakar Banerjee’s Love Sex Aur Dhokha 2 (Rs 15 lakh).

The Sabarmati Report continues to perform well at the box office. By 4 pm on Saturday, the film had earned Rs 73 lakh for the day, bringing its total domestic earnings to Rs 1.98 crore. Its overall occupancy on Saturday stands at 17.18 percent, with morning shows at 11.56 percent and afternoon screenings reaching 22.80 percent.
Despite facing criticism for being a propaganda film, The Sabarmati Report has not been able to replicate the success of the most successful propaganda movie in recent times, The Kerala Story. Directed by Sudipto Sen, The Kerala Story earned Rs 8.03 crore in the domestic market.
