Former One Direction star Liam Payne tragically fell to his death from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, last month, sparking off a big investigation into his demise.
While the case is still under investigation, with authorities taking three people into custody, including one who may have supplied him with drugs, a new report on TMZ reveals a new ‘escape plan’. According to the report, the singer was allegedly attempting to escape from the third floor of his hotel room via the balcony.
According to witness accounts, CCTV footage and police reports obtained by TMZ, the singer, who had a known dislike for being confined in hotel rooms, was seen acting disruptive, while seemingly under the influence. The footage later sees the star being escorted out of the hotel lobby by staff members and being carried to his room. Payne is then seen protesting outside his room, and seemingly warning the staff that he would use the balcony to escape.The report states that moments later, a hotel employee even called emergency services, expressing concerns about his safety and informing them that his room had a balcony.
Shortly thereafter, the singer reportedly fell from the third-floor and died. When his body was discovered, he had a bag strapped to his shoulder, and a cap was also found near his body, suggesting that he may have been attempting to first jump on the second-floor balcony before making his way out.
The report also states that a bag containing pills, a bottle of Jack Daniel’s, and a note reading “for Liam” was later found on the second-floor balcony below his room. Authorities suspect he intended to retrieve the bag and carry out his escape plan.
While the coroner reported Payne may have been unconscious when he fell, the evidence retrieved from the location seemed to indicate that he was alert and planning his escape moments prior.
The incident has also brought attention to allegations involving drug use and potential negligence from the hotel staff.
