What made Cameron Diaz quit Hollywood in 2014? Ahead of her on-screen comeback, Charlie's Angels star reveals

In 2014, well-known Hollywood actress Cameron Diaz made headlines when she said she was quitting the business to take care of herself and reclaim her personal life.
Once one of Hollywood’s most famous faces, Cameron Diaz startled her admirers in 2014 by deciding to step away from the limelight. After a successful acting career that included hits like Charlie’s Angels, There’s Something About Mary, and The Mask, Diaz announced in 2018 that she was retiring. She stated at the time that she needed to take back her personal life, which is why she took the decision, saying, “For me, it was just something I had to do.” After years of working in a job that required a lot of her time and attention, she disclosed at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit that she wanted to put her personal needs first.
Actress Cameron Diaz believed that a break from performing was necessary for her well-being. She reflected on how Hollywood’s pressures had affected her life while on vacation. I thought I had to do it in order to take back my own life. Additionally, Diaz stated, “I simply didn’t give a damn about anything else.”
Away from the hectic world of filmmaking, she began a new chapter, unconcerned with other opinions or offers. “Nobody’s opinion, nobody’s success, no one’s offer, no one’s anything could change my mind about my decision of taking care of myself,” Diaz claimed at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit.
She was able to concentrate on building the life she had always yearned for but had never fully realised while in the spotlight thanks to this transformation.

Cameron Diaz reveals why she quit acting

Even though Diaz stopped performing, she still found happiness in other pursuits. Diaz co-founded the vegan wine company Avaline in 2020 with her close friend Katherine Power. By promoting a lifestyle that matched her principles, this program gave Diaz the opportunity to concentrate her imagination on something other than acting. The career that had defined Diaz for more than three decades had become less important to her.
She committed herself to pursuits that brought her happiness and purpose. The crux of the matter is: What do you have a strong interest in? “Building my family was my goal,” Diaz had reportedly remarked.
In 2019, she and her spouse, Benji Madden, who plays in the band Good Charlotte, had their first child via surrogacy, a daughter named Raddix. A second kid, born in March 2024, was added to their family earlier this year.

The renowned actress’s Hollywood career was far from over, but she had found serenity in her new existence. She will make her much awaited comeback to the big screen in January, co starring with Jamie Foxx in the Netflix action comedy Back in Action.
Foxx has previously collaborated with Cameron Diaz on Any Given Sunday and Annie, her final motion picture before she retired from performing. In this new movie, Diaz plays Emily, a former CIA agent who decides to start a family with her boyfriend, Matt (Foxx), after giving up her spy job. But when their disguise is revealed, they are forced to resume their activities.
